Triple P

WHAT IS TRIPLE P?

Triple P is a parenting program, but it doesn’t tell you how to be a parent. Instead, it provides information, space, and perspective to explore your own parenting. It allows you the ability to choose your own goals, according to your own beliefs and values, and then select and adapt Triple P parenting strategies to help you achieve those goals. It’s all about making Triple P work for you.

WHAT DOES TRIPLE P DO?

The three Ps in ‘Triple P’ stand for ‘Positive Parenting Program’ which means your family life is going to be much more enjoyable.

Triple P helps you:

  • Raise happy, confident children
  • Manage misbehaviour so everyone in the family enjoys life more
  • Set rules and routines that everyone respects and follows
  • Encourage behaviour you like
  • Take care of yourself as a parent
  • Feel confident you’re doing the right thing

CURRENT PROGRAMS:

This winter FIREFLY is offering two Triple P programs, one for parents of children 11 and younger (Group Triple P) and one for parents of teens 12 and older (Group Teen Triple P).

What to expect from Group Teen Triple P

Parents actively participate in a range of exercises to learn about the influences on adolescent behaviour, setting specific goals, and using strategies to promote a teenager’s skill development, manage inappropriate behaviour, and teach emotional self-regulation. Parents also learn how to plan around risk-taking behaviour and risky situations.

Group Teen Triple P takes place over 8 weeks. There are five virtual group sessions, plus three weeks of personalized support surrounding the use of positive parenting strategies via phone. Missing more than one session may result in being unable to continue in the program and will be discussed with you should this occur (should Session One not be attended, your participation in the February course will not continue and future participation could be considered).

We encourage both parents participate together when they can, however, we understand this may not always be possible. Parents’ participation in the program together supports improved outcomes in the home, so if you and your partner can attend together, we would love to have you join us! Single parents and co-parents are welcome to participate.

At each session, you will be expected to have the following;

  • A computer/tablet/phone with a working camera and microphone and the Zoom application downloaded. Click here for information on how to download Zoom.
  • A quiet and comfortable space ready to participate in the program; we generally ask that children not be present to support all parents and caregivers in being able to speak and participate openly (sharing situations, examples, emotions).
  • Your copy of Every Parent’s Group Workbook and a pen/pencil (the workbook will be supplied to you and pick up of this material will be arranged following the completion and review of this registration).
  • Completed homework from the following session.

Please note:

Triple P is NOT intended to be a service to substitute or mediate in the following situations: (These needs and circumstances may be present while participating in Triple P, but other services may be considered and/or more suitable);

  • Need for behaviour modification (Applied Behaviour Analysis [ABA]), mental health or emotional regulation counselling, interventions to support Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD), or other diagnosis (families with this present may still participate in Triple P, but may also require other services).
  • Crisis or instability in the family that would interrupt being able to commit to attending or applying strategies into your home.
  • High levels of conflict in the parents’ relationship or parents’ going through a separation or divorce which may interrupt the ability to engage and participate in the program.
  • Unable to attend five scheduled virtual group sessions and three scheduled one-on-one phone sessions.
