Telepsychiatry

PSYCHIATRY VIA INTERACTIVE VIDEO

Program Features

The Telepsychiatry program allows for the provision of psychiatric consultation via interactive video link with the Division of Child Psychiatry, University of Toronto. The consulting psychiatrist interacts with the child and the family via two-way television equipment based at the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto.

Privacy and confidentiality are completely guaranteed.

How Does a Video Meeting Work?

A video meeting allows you to talk with the psychiatrist through two-way television, connected by a private Internet connection. This means that no one can listen in on your conversation.

Video meetings usually last about one to two hours. The psychiatrist will likely want to speak with the child or youth, the parents/guardians, and the counselor. The psychiatrist will share his/her thoughts on what might help your situation. A written report will be prepared and sent to your counselor and/or your doctor.
