{"id":6857,"date":"2025-10-10T14:38:17","date_gmt":"2025-10-10T19:38:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.fireflynw.ca\/?p=6857"},"modified":"2025-10-10T14:38:38","modified_gmt":"2025-10-10T19:38:38","slug":"firefly-recognizes-days-of-significance-in-october","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.fireflynw.ca\/fr\/news\/firefly-recognizes-days-of-significance-in-october\/","title":{"rendered":"FIREFLY Recognizes Days of Significance in October"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Occupational Therapy Month<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>October is <strong>Occupational Therapy Month<\/strong>, a time to celebrate the important work occupational therapists do to help people live full and independent lives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Occupational therapy (OT) supports children and youth to build or rebuild the skills needed for everyday activities, whether those challenges come from developmental delays, injury, or other life circumstances.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>OTs use many different approaches, such as:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Creating therapy programs to support physical, cognitive, or emotional needs<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Teaching new ways to complete daily tasks<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Recommending home or workplace modifications for comfort and accessibility<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Suggesting assistive devices to make activities easier<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Collaborating with families and caregivers for ongoing support<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>All month we\u2019ll be highlighting our wonderful OTs on our social media pages, be sure to follow along!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>International Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) Awareness Month<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>October is also <strong>AAC Awareness Month<\/strong>, which recognizes the many ways people communicate using communication devices.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>AAC can include using pictures, gestures, technology, writing, sign language, or facial expressions, any form of communication that helps a person express their thoughts and connect with others. For some, AAC is their main form of communication; for others, it\u2019s an important support tool.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This month is a great reminder that everyone communicates differently, but everyone deserves to be heard.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you know someone who has made a significant impact on another person&#8217;s communication by supporting them with AAC &#8211; whether as a caregiver, teacher, mentor, or role model &#8211; please nominate them as an AAC Champion. <a href=\"https:\/\/forms.office.com\/r\/n0jVBMgAP0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">Cliquez ici<\/a> to learn more and nominate someone today!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;Closer to Halloween we\u2019ll have bracelets available for families to use for accessible Trick or Treating using AAC, stay tuned for more details!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>National Disability Employment Awareness Month<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>October is also <strong>National Disability Employment Awareness Month<\/strong>, which promotes inclusion and equal opportunity in the workplace.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>People with disabilities bring valuable skills, ideas, and perspectives to their communities and workplaces.
