World Autism Day – April 2

Thursday, April 2 is World Autism Day. In Canada we’ve take this movement from “awareness” to “acceptance”. So, what exactly does that mean?

It’s about embracing and valuing the unique perspectives and abilities of autism people. It challenges stereotypes, reduces stigma, and empowers individuals to express themselves confidently. Just being “aware” of autism is no longer enough, we’re asking you to join with us as we look to create spaces where autistic people are respected, included, and supported for who they are.

There are many ways you can show support.

  1. Donate to the FIREFLY endowment fund or Autism Ontario. Your support makes a vital difference in the lives of the people and families we help. Click here to learn more about the FIREFLY Endowment Fund and click here to donate to Autism Ontario.
  2. Commit to making a difference. Take a look at the learning resources offered by Autism Ontario or Autism Canada to understand how you can make your space better for autistic children, youth and adults. But remember everyone is unique and is their own expert on what they need!
  3. Wear tie dye on April 2! Show your support rocking your tie dye in honour of Autism Ontario’s campaign Celebrate the Spectrum.
  4. Head to our social media @fireflynw on both Facebook and Instagram and share our posts! Let’s decorate social media in tie dye tomorrow!

Thank you in advance to everyone working to create a more supportive world for autistic children, youth, and adults.
